Subject: 49th NDC Course at National Defence College, New Delhi commencing on 5th January, 2009.

The 49th NDC Course at National Defence College, New Delhi is due to commence on 5th January, 2009. the course is of duration of 47 weeks. A few seats at the NDC course are earmarked for the civilian officers belonging to various Ministries/Departments.

  1. The broad objectives of the NDC course is to provide a holistic view of contemporary economic and political scenarios and related aspects with particular emphasis on security issues. A better understanding among professionals drawn from different disciplines in the country having divergent backgrounds and value is yet another objective of the course. Visits to important military stations and frontier posts and some foreign countries from integral part of the course curriculum.
    1. Guidelines/QRs laid down for the selection of officers to be nominated for the course are as under:-
      1. IAS/IPS/IFS Officers having 16 years of completed service.
      2. Officers of other Central Civil Services of the rank of senior Deputy Secretary / Director of a Central Ministry or equivalent who are likely to reach policy making level of Joint Secretary or equivalent having not less than 18 years of completed service.
      3. Below 50 years is age, with sound physical and mental health.
      4. Excellent record of past performance.
      5. Clearance from vigilance and/or disciplinary angle.
  2. The Officers should not have undergone a training program of 12 weeks or more duration in India during a period of 5 years preceding the date of commencement of this course. Further, the officer should not have undergone a program of training abroad of more than 2 weeks in preceding 2 years, more than one month in the preceding 3 years or more than 6 months in preceding 5 years.
  3. Course Fees:

The details of course fees are given below:

(a) Tuition fees Rs.2,10,000/-*
(b) Internal tours Rs.37,625/-*
(c ) Foreign tours On the basis of actual expenditure incurred (to be intimated later).

6. Nominations of suitable officers in the proforma enclosed at Annexure “A” together with the photocopies of last five years’ Annual Confidential reports of the officers concerned may please be sent to the Under Secretary (SSC), Ministry of Defence, D (GS-II), Room No. 101, D-1 Wing, Sena Bhavan, New Delhi – 110 011 so as to reach him on or before 31st July, 2008. Nominations received after this date may not be considered. It is also requested to obtain cadre clearance and other clearances in respect of the officer(s) to be nominated for the course. In case of IAS officers, who are on Central deputation, the concurrence of the State government concerned on whose strength the officer is borne,

shall be obtained.
